long time ago i had the idea to combine the two gametypes invasion and jailbreak.

for those who dont know jailbreak heres the trailer for ut99 (i know we play ut2k4,
but i like that flair and the voices from old game better, also i only know this "trailer":

explanation in short words:

1.) special designed maps ****** (see later)
2.) one jail for every team, if a player was killed, he spawns in it
3.) team-memebrs must reach and hit a button to release the jailed members
4.) a special designed area, part of the map,but not part of the regular
gaming area, to fight against w/e, "boss-monster(s)" scarii or else


when a player is killed, he spawns in jail. he can view on monitors other players
and that special arena, or try to "kill" <dead> teamplayers for fun with shieldgun...
if teammate release them, they can go out or stay in jail.

if all members of a team were killed, the jail has deadly weapons which
finally kills the team like spikes, moving walls, machine guns popping
out, flamethrowers etc...

every now and then a random prisoner was automatic "released" in that special designed
arena, if he succeed to kill the monster/bot in it, he was released into regular
gaming-arena and could continue to play.


now back to monster madness..

there cant be all included from jailbreak. releasebutton in that case make no sense, for example.

****** the problem are the maps, no matter how you see it. if we need completely new maps to
manage this gameplay i think it needs ages to make it happen.
if we use the maps we have now, there are no arenas and no jails.

but we have bunkers. so my idea was, why not a bit bigger bunker for the jail
(no way to trans out, but to look out through fences what happens around in the map,
and to make it a bit funnier, monsters can kill you in there again, but not affecting
your weps or stats) and another closed bunkertype for the penalty-arena, were a random
jailed player has to fight against w/e bad monster

we have all kind of maps, huge and very small.
the huge ones should be fine for that. if we can spawn 20 or more bunkers in these maps
it should be possible to spawn ONE of these "arenas" and ONE jail-bunker.

the question is, what happens in small maps like gael or training-day?
can these special things spawn outside the map without causing troubles?
or leeds mapsize to overleap both and with that we get unplayable map(s)?

last but not least you may ask, why combining the 2 gametypes. the answer is simple
and maybe especially the newbies and those who play very long time now here would
undestand it:

how many hours did you waste your time and spectate as DEAD player the (last) player(s) alive?
if you had the chance to fight allone against a boss-monster, just to come back
into the regular game and help winning, would you take that chance? i bet you do.
and i also bet, like in jailbreak, many would have more fun in trying to "kill" >dead<
team-mates with the shieldgun (or with transloc..) than to spec again for hours
other players

Firstly, The ideas are very neat. However I think that it would change the Invasion game type too much, and would have to be its own game type.
Possibly would need 2 servers, one to run "normal" invasion, and another one for this combo game type.

And yes, you would need specially designed maps to accommodate the jail.

It would take a lot of time for our very small team of Programmers, Graphic Designers, and Mappers to do this.
We all have jobs, and family and do this on our spare time. Our schedules give us time to work on these updates like 180, and 181+ to integrate new things little by little.
Unfortunately we don't have jobs like at Epic to create things for the server full time.

Joey says anything can be done in Code, but Id be shocked to see if it could actually be completed personally.

These are my initial thoughts. :)

Now I say maybe, but it could be possible to make a RPG ability that lets you respawn once after you die as long as you are in second place. You could recycle ghost since it does all of the work for you.
