I looked at Gameservers.com for dedicated server hosting and it costs $180 a month. The problem with going this route is that we don't get to keep our IP (which isn't technically the biggest deal), but its not cost effective in the end. Joey paid $1500 for the dead server 8 years ago. That means it only cost him $187 a year to have his own server, which is about the same price to rent one for only one month. It just makes more financial sense to own our own server and pay a datacenter to host it.Amy Infless wrote:oh my.....
..thats what i meant with what i cant understand. it really seems having a gameserver is totally different
between usa and germany...
my question is the definition of "having".. renting it at low cost or really buying it...
atm it doesnt matter i have another, in my oppinion more important question, pointing at all players
who never ever visited forum or still dont know there exist one even when playing since 3 years.
so, is there a way to set up or rent something like a dummy-server, that tells anyone who tries to
connect that server is temporary down for upgrading or maybe a small 2-4 slot gameserver
(some gameservers have 1month trials for free...) that only runs spectator-mode with these
white server-messages that real server will be back soon?
or maybe some hacks that leads everyone who tries to connect directly into this forum...

Kyle send me specs for what Joey is looking for. I might be able to get a better deal from a guy I do work with from time to time.
If you lost your cd and have the old drive and have not reinstalled UT2004 or reformatted the drive, you can find your old cd key in the registry here ...

This is what I was hoping for... More people to offer connections and possibly a lower-cost solution.ZombieSlayer wrote:Kyle send me specs for what Joey is looking for. I might be able to get a better deal from a guy I do work with from time to time.
If you guys need anything designed or fabricated, I can hook you up , but if you need any real advice on computers or servers, I am not your guy, I don't know shit about them. \
I now play on my "second UT home' which is Death Warrant, and when I see players from here, I update them on what I see on this forum, and to go here.
Also, there is now a LOT of interest over there from people who want to come play on THIS server...but they can't. I started recruiting players from there a couple months ago when the server was up, and we ended-up with more than a few people who came over and mostly stayed. Part of keeping the server alive, once it comes back, is to constantly be recruiting people from other servers.
So, if and when the server comes back up, it will STILL require people to do a little recruiting on other sites...This means you all need to go start playing on other sites while this server is down, and create a bit of a buzz about what is going on, and get people a little more interested so we have a bigger player base when it comes back...a player base that might have some new donors

I heard some really good news last night as well, at about 9pm central time, but it resulted in tear-gassing and buildings being set on fire.BaronVonRotterdam wrote:I just got a message a little while ago from joey telling me that he has "good news". I'll keep you guys posted.

I hope Joeyz good news doesn't entail anything like that.

Re: The Server Is Dead (But there is good news)
I just donated quite a few Burger King Whoppers. I will consider this a donation towards the past where I did not pay anything for the hours of fun I received. Once the new server is up, I will donate at least that much again, probably more.
Happy Thanksgiving!
