Maybe next Christmas if they don't get their acts together at that data center soon... :rofl2:

So as usual because of joey not communicating with me there is a little bit of confusion.

As I mentioned in my last post the plan was that joey was going to contact the data server this morning. He was going to ask them to keep the old IP and then he was going to bring down the old server and we were going to setup the new server with the old IP. He said after he called them he would give me a call in the morning. I received no phone call from joey as usual. This is what he does. He makes an appointment with me and says "I'll call you back in an hour". He misses the appointment and doesn't give me a courtesy message telling me that he won't make it and doesn't try to reschedule. Sometimes hours, days, weeks go by and sometimes no phone call. Joey is a busy guy and I know this but what he does is inconsiderate and he leaves everyone hanging. Its like telling your friend to meet you at the movies at 10pm and then just don't show up. Also don't tell your friend that you will be late / won't be showing up and then don't call them again for hours, days, or weeks. Again, joey has done this to me for years. This is why I'm trying to become equal in control to him so that I can do things without having to involve him since anything he has to do never gets done in a timely manner. Now that that is off my chest, back to the situation at hand.

So I called the data center and give them the order to bring down the old box and give me the instructions to setup the new one. After I do that I messaged joey and said you never got back to me so I proceeded with last nights plan without you. He tells me to stop calling the data center and that he is transferring some last minute files and that he will be home in an hour. He's probably pissed off at me, but what was I supposed to do? He's not communicating with me so I can only proceed with the last directive.

So at this very moment the old server is down and unless the files finished transferring then the transfer was lost. Since he doesn't want me to call he has to call the data center and have them bring back up the old server so he can transfer the last minute files. Also bear in mind that tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I don't know the data centers holiday hours. If we need to contact them for something then we might have to wait until their Christmas break is over, however long that might take. It's unacceptable to be in a situation like this and again I'm trying to do everything I can to get everything back up and running in a timely manner.

Now, I'm not sure what the last minute files are but I don't believe they are essential to starting up the UT servers because I was able to start the 180 server without them and I would probably be able to start the 179 server without them either. So that makes me wonder how essential the files are. The files joey needs might be some tools to make it easier to release a new patch, but I don't believe not having the files will prevent new code from being released. Again I'm speculating because he hasn't called me yet.

Meanwhile, I have the instructions to configure the new server to the old IP so I can bring up the UT servers. However, I don't know if the old server needs the old IP to transfer the files. Or if the old server can easily be given a new IP to transfer the files.

Hopefully he calls me back tonight and explains to me what the plan is. If he doesn't then I'm going to proceed with configuring the new server to the old IP and I will bring up the UT servers. Now mind you, I still have to setup the redirect servers too so if the server is up you might be downloading at a terribly slow rate until they are configured. Please keep this in mind. If he needs the old files then worst case scenario I'll pay to have the hard drives shipped to my house and I'll upload them to the new server.

As usual I'll keep you guys posted, just pray that joey has the decency to do the same for me. He's not a bad guy but hes simply unreliable and inconsiderate about getting back to me and I'm doing the best I can to get the show on the road, considering the circumstances.

If you do not have a server on this IP, the IP has been reprovisioned to someone else.... it pings to standard dos ping, meaning it's live.

According to a reverse ip lookup, the Ip hasn't been provisioned to anyone, but if memory serves, there is a 1 month cool to drop Ip's back to available pool... I think... not 100% on this, since a lot of places have different views on this. The general view from registrar is 1 month I think. hope you get it back, though it isn't the end of the world ... the cname points to the IP etc..

LOL.. true dat. it gametracker looks at 7877 or 7787 for activity, no activity = not online, though a dos ping to the IP shows a return meaning the IP was still live last night..... right now ....

ping 204.11.33.157

Pinging 204.11.33.157 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 208.64.36.1: TTL expired in transit.
Reply from 208.64.36.1: TTL expired in transit.
Reply from 208.64.36.1: TTL expired in transit.
Reply from 208.64.36.1: TTL expired in transit.

Ping statistics for 204.11.33.157:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

dns reg says 204.11.33.157 is not there atm.... should be able to pull it back up, reprovision it to the game server.

sad to read this all.

i´m not very religious. but what i know about the time around "christmas" and silvester is,
here in germany (and i´m sure in other countries, too) it´s the time with the most broken
hearts, broken friendships, broken marriages...

and many nerve collapsed people like my old mom 3 days ago who cant manage all that stress
alone anymore, shopping for a gift here, some presents there, cooking, backing...

so please calm down, stop pressuring yourself for a stupid deadline especially at this time.
i know you spent lot of time and money into that "project" and you want to finally finish it.

sure we all would be happy if you could present us the new running server as christmasgift,
but i dont care if its today, tomorrow, or in worst case after hollidays in 2 weeks...

calm down, try to relax a bit, fly away with some trance music, let your brain blow away with
some hard techno beats or bang your head to good heavy metal stuff, w/e works best.

then relaod and shoot again! oh wait, that was something else.. ;)

Merry Christmas!

I second this, it will be when it is ready.... be nice to turn fools gold into real gold, but not going to happen ever.

If it comes up at xmas, great.. but if not.... happy holidays to all...
