Errr, not sure how much good it will do. "New oil" is about 5-10 years, plus the lack of refining we have... oil prices will go down, but not for 10 years.
His talk of releasing the SPR oil is whack. Really. At 700 mb capacity, *I* will become an oil speculator when that runs dry... Yeah, I'll sign the petition for new oil exploration, it can't hurt if somebody actually reads it, .

This video includes references to alternative fuels but the real focus and the concern of most viewers is the cost of gas at the pump.
I live in America and I will not be signing it.
Just so my idiot neighbor with a hummer can afford to get 10mpg.
Fuel should be expensive. Then people will consider appropriate ways to use and save it.
When I drive to my University every morning I travel alongside thousands of fuel guzzling Trucks and SUV's, most capable of have 5+ passenger or hauling tons of material. Yet each contains a single occupant, and hauls no materials. I think everyone have the right to drive whatever they want but believe that people should take responsibility. Fuel prices are the tip of the iceberg, we need high taxes on inefficient vehicles.
This focus on Oil is shortsighted! Nothing last forever. Yet those with a vested interest in Oil keep pump out Oil propaganda to perpetuate their existence.

You think driving SUV's are irresponsible!? Uh oh, I feel a shitstorm coming on..
Anyway, I agree with what you're saying. I live in NYC, the most "liberal" place in the country and even here you still have that HURRRR REAL MEN DRIVE BIG GAS GUZZLING VEHICLES mentality. Anyone that has efficiency in mind, i.e., going hybrid, or getting a smaller more MPG-friendly car gets you giggles and questions of your sexuality here just as common as down south, where I hear the mentality is worse. Its all fine n' dandy if you NEED a large and powerful vehicle like that, but.. I've seen people down south in Florida go as far as buying the notorious "gas guzzling" vehicles to own in most part to stick it to hippies and liberals.
When gas reaches european prices (and the guys across the pond are having a great time watching us squirm while they've dealt with high prices for years) then maybe we'll see more people making smarter choices.

So basically your saying that you not only want gas expensive.......but EVERYTHING ELSE EXPENSIVE........when fuel costs rise, so does everything else.........that's everything.....veggies, milk and all products that need get get transported to a retail store........that's dumb !!!!+SaiN+ wrote:

Gas is here to stay........all you tree-hugging liberals need to get a reality check. We need to drill and release the oil reserves.......to hell with OPEC. And I'll continue to drive my 4x4 truck with only me in it......cause this is america and we are suppose to be free to do that......
Damn communist !!!!!

i know im not livin in usa... just my 2 eu-cents
well sorry to say that but i´m a bit amused about that discussion. not because of the negative sites, not because it looks like you start to kill each other in real-life every moment, but because of an old phrase:
"history repeats itself!" sometimes it needs centuries, sometimes only some years... i can only speak for the situation in germany. we have that problem longtime now and there is no end in the near future (maybe if some heads get cut off...) the problem here is, more than 80% believe, its the oilcompanies who make big money. in germany its our politics! i can research whereever i want, the tax we must pay pro/per liter (!) is announced between 70-80% !!! in moment i need to pay 1.55 euro/liter.
1.55euro - 75%tax = ~0.39euro real price/1 liter (in germany.. dunno taxes and other costs in other eu-neighbourcountries)
well...
gasoline more and more expensive, all others rise up too!
milk and butter for example costs 0.6-0.8euro. within half a year price now is nearly doubled! bread, pretzels etc, 1 pretzel 2 years ago 12-18 e-cent, now 35-55e-cent!
just try to imagine an example:
to bring all the food from whereever its made from city a to city b you maybe need a truck for it. it drives 300miles one way. to make a easy calculation it needs 30litres.
30l x 1.55euro = 46.5euro.
now lets "only" double the prize "again".
then one way transport = 93euro. you really think the food-transport-company say: its ok, gasoline costs doubled price now, but we still transport it for 46.5 euro ??????
who you think will take the rest of the cost? our state? our politicians? no, we, the consumers. if transport costs more, food and all others rise up!
who pays for it? again, we, the consumers.
its like a chain-letter, one time it comes up, it needs long time till it stops.
and if it stops and money was in that "game", then the great winners are the beginners.
but who started the oil-price-"chain-letter"? well, in germanys case politics,
the problem is, like in most countries of this mfkn world: how can we stop them? signing something doesnt help here. german laws makes this nearly impossible, except they can say its totally useless, let them sign whatever they want.
history repeats itself. looks like "america" has now "our" problem.
good luck solving it! i hope you have more possibilities in the "land of unlimited opportunity" (germans rough translation for USA)
when its done maybe our politicians can learn from yours...
but im not sure if this will happen in next ten years :-(

Cause and effect
And increase in gas prices will cause an increase in transportation costs. Its very simple math. Until UT translocators become reality we are forced to transport good by land, sea, and air. Expensive fuels equal expensive goods.
No clear long-term solution to the problem, The quick fix touted by those with a vested interest in Oil is to drill more, means cheaper Gas and is embraced by those people such as Arch who need a thirsty car to form their identity.
Depending where you source your "facts" and theories, it is possible to develop a range of opinions. I have found throughout years of reading research (not about Oil) that there is often an element of truth to even the craziest of hypothesis. Here a few things i believe to be truths:

- Oil is running out. (long-term)
The worlds consumption of Oil grows daily.
Drilling for more Oil will lower gas prices (short-term)
Drilling more Oil will have an environmental impact (short and long-term)
Fuel inefficiency wastes a limited resource.
Its a global issue that requires cooperation between nations.
Ford and GM missed the boat.
Lobbyists for the oil, motor, defense, & pharmaceuticals corporations determine US policy.
Regardless of truth, people will still demand their constitutional right to drive idiotically inefficient vehicles, negating any progress.
My wife is going to kill me if I don't wrap this up and come to bed.

And the problem with the right-side of the isle is the fact that they label everyone else who isn't on their end tree-hugging red-as-censored Communists, which I will never understand. Its quite frankly, a lame-ass tactic I'm just tired of hearing.
Never did I imply in advocating high gasoline prices at all, and I welcome any chance we can get on using our own resources we have here. All the commodities you mention here are going up quite high here in NYC, too! But if the oil companies see that we are STILL paying for oil at the current price, do you believe they will lower prices at the pump once the cost of a barrel of crude oil goes down?
The message I AM trying to get across is the fact that I feel that you, and others like you are making poor choices that are hurting you, and possibly everyone else around you in the name of freedom. You make the choices you do, expect people to point and blame you for some of the problems, since they have the freedom to do as such, too. I mean, from what I see in this situation, I would be trying to find more gas-efficient vehicles, not complaining that driving my gas-guzzler is more expensive to own.

This is caused by the future buyers.......not through usage.......and it will go bad for those investors (remember the "Dot.com" crashes)...........Right now, we could release 25% of our reserves (lol, does England have reserves or are they totally reliant on OPEC?) and while we're doing that, we can start drilling again and building more refineries (heaven forbid the oil companies re-invest in themselves and build more refineries).Kung_fu_Grip wrote:Cause and effect

Maybe you like a government to tell you what to drive, when to drive, how to drive or how to live, but not me. Face it......It's a resource and we will use it.
By the way, that's why the first settlers broke away from England and came to this land we now call United States of America........so we can and should live free.
