Glitching and all about it

Well after talking to several players and admins I thought I make this post with clear definitions for glitching so all know whats that.

Now you have noticed by now (I hope) that some maps are harder to beat just because monsters move / chase you better; thats because they have great bot pathing. Those are usualy maps from map packs and official ones where everything (well most of time ) is done perfectly.
Now there are other maps done by us players and those are not so tough, just because pathing isnt great. (remember just placing path nodes isn't enough).

In other hand we play on godlike server and bots/monsters do maximum search for paths and nodes to run and find you. So take any of these maps which are not part of map packs or oficial ones and spectate it in instant action but not as godlike but as novice and you will see that monster dont know where to go; meaning it isnt great path.

So lets start with people who map as they are first to be blamed.

* If you make a map and path only part of it, thats a glitched map.

* If you make a room where bots (monsters ) cant go = glitched map.

* If you place a mesh that covers large area to fit more than 2 players and monsters cant go there = glitched again.


I dont remember more things about mappers as I am writing this quick (my son wont let me finish it)

To players who think they arent glitching but they are:

* You cant get under terrain EVER as its clearly a glitch.

* If you find part of the map from where you see textures of zone border (like ones you see if you go on top of rankin egypt map ) its a glitch as mapper made mistake not blocking that area.


* If you get stuck on elivator (I noticed can be done in few maps) please suicide and dont let server make error logs and such.

Thats all for now and please add coments if you have any, but do not thread crap here as this is important for all to know if you want server to run good.

Well, let me first start off by saying....I'm not any sort of UT mapper, nor do I claim to be. So, the tiny in's / out's / details /quirks of mapping and map structure are not really at the forefront of my knowledge. :| Though, I have never turned away from learning new things :-k

I didn't notice anything beyond the roof of Ranking Egypt, other than sky, which means..that I didn't even see the "ground" or bottom of the map itself. But had you been spectating me...you would have noticed that I ran around the perimiter of the roof to see if in fact there was a way to get beyond the confines of the "playable" map area. :roll: If I had found a way beyond the edge, I wouldn't have been up there at all. After your comments you may have noticed that I did not go up there for the rest of the match.

If this is part of what is considered to be "Glitching", then I can already tell I'm gonna be kicking alot of people. Cause I see this happen alot :|

Normally, I like to think of my self as a respectable player. I don't like cheating, not only for others...but myself as well. Cheating is the lazy way to game, and I think it's pointless, and somewhat of a bore :| Just so you know, that is never my intention!

Now, I had already mentioned the issue of "Glitching" in the Admin section of the forums about setting up some specific details as to what is considered to be "Glitching" along with details concerning other stuff. Not to discount what you're saying...however, it is joey's server, and I'll go by whatever guidelines he lines out for the admins. Be assured that if ever there is a question in my mind about something, then I will make an effort to discuss it with the other admins, joey, Paint and cj. As well, I know that joey does all he can to correct any "Flaws" or "Glitches" in the maps he runs on the server, and there are many that I've never played before in my life so, I'm not going to immediately know.

Also, keep in mind, that I've not been an admin on this server for very long. I'm currently an admin/owner of my own server, as well as an admin on numerous others and I've admin'd on a few in the past. One thing I can say that never changes about being an admin on these servers is that every server is different. Not that I'm shruggin off what you're saying though, but I'm working on updating my knowledge and details of the server rules. So, please be patient...I'll try to get it all assimilated ASAP! :wave:

This is a thread I will 100% support. I play Monster Madness because of the challenge of it and the fun I have with the great people on it. The challenges include: player count, monster strengths, player abilities (bought or learned), and adaptation of play style with each map.

The people include... well so many I would be afraid to name them all for the fact I may accidentally leave one out (You all know who you are :wave: ).

Things I HATE are people that glitch a map and purposely know they are glitching. And I got the perfect example of the most over-used and UNDER ADMINNED Glitch used.

I can't remember this map name off the top of my head, but I really enjoy playing it for how challenging it can be. I HATE playing it when I see people constantly abuse this OBVIOUS MAP GLITCH. This is an area that can be EASILY walked into by players only, the players can shoot out of the texture and damage monsters, and the big kicker... it is IMPOSSIBLE FOR MONSTERS TO HIT YOU HERE!!! YOU ARE SITTING BELOW A MAP TEXTURE FOR GOODNESS SAKES!!!

I don't know how many times I have played this, and late waves being one of the last few alive, just to die and find out the remaining people are hiding in this GLITCH!

My wife even asked a well known, long time standing Monster Madness member about it the other day when she saw this person do it (this name will remain anonymous to prevent a witchhunt.) And the funniest thing (to me atleast) was his reply: "Oh, well CJ said this glitch is ok to use..."

What?!?!?!? An admin of a server is saying that a obvious MAP GLITCH, that could possibly be throwing errors at the server during use (I don't know this for sure, but just an educated assumption) said it is ok to use a MAP GLITCH. Even his rules say glitchers will be BANNED, I would find it very suprising that he would make exceptions on a map per map basis and not have it stickied somewhere...

Ok, I have gone on my rant. This is my Question to Admins and Monster Madness Developers: ARE THERE ANY KNOWN MAP GLITCHES (SUCH AS ABOVE) THAT ARE ALLOWED ON THIS SERVER?

If I am wrong on my assumptions above, I will never dispute it again and respect what admins tell me about it and this is my formal apology to those I have given grief to about it...

If I am right, believe I will make it personal responsibility to watch for the example glitch. Play the game for the challenege, not to BLATANTLY cheat it.



Rant Done...ADMIN OR DEVELOPER, PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS THREAD. I THINK THIS IS AN IMPORTANT MATTER TO BRING UP.

DM 1 on 1 Irondust (and IrondustII) is the map in cha chi's screeny.

Joey has said in the past that he doesn't mind if people hide there. However that was quite some time ago.

It will be easy enough to fix and when I get back to working on maps I'll be sure to do so.

cJ has sent a final draft of new server rules to Joey. Once Joey gives it the final ok we'll post it.

long time ago, when joey had spare time to play WITH us, and not spectating or workin nearby, we played exactly this map, iron-dust-fixed.
everyone who play longer time here and know this map knows this "glitch" too, and some only call it "dirt" or things like "come under <dirt>".
pity i dont have screenshots, when joey hided THERE WITH US and said something like "this will be the only exception, the only map in which its allowed to go there". do not ask me why he said that. he must had a reason, maybe he recogniced "this" glitch didnt cause as much errors as maps where you can go "under", like so many others we reported (and they are still in map-pool...)
some admins say we should go out, some dont say anything. but only in THIS map.
so, "until further notice" from joey i will use "this glitch" only. i do not know why this discussion allways comes with THIS map, others who lag much more like hell cause players can easy go out, under or on top are still used and not fixed and noone is saying any word. like i said, there are so many other reported glitchy maps still in mappool and players still using glitches in this maps and find it funny cause no admin was there and start to talk shit against those who say "go out".... why noone talks about THESE maps?

IronDust is one of maps with a glitch, but lets not turn this onto a Irondust thread plz.

If you want to help post map name and glitch which has to be fixed.

Here few as example:

DM-Mandulis - block going to roof
DM-WarPit -block monsters going under terrain
Dm-RankinEgypt- Block going through windows out of map and block roof top

Amy,no one talks about those maps cause we all know that they have glitches in them and know that U are not allowed in those glitches,.

I think the reason everone is talking about these couple of maps is that
no one really knows if they are off bounds or not.

Joey really only has a problem with the glitches that put errors in the server or on client side.

I guess if this is going to be a problem with no one really knowing if they are glitching or not.
The best thing to do is just say ok,
No glitching whatsoever.

That way there is no question.

So consider this an Official Post. From this point on.
There is no glitching allowed in any part of any map.

I agree cJ, if there is even a slight question as to wether or not it's a glitch, then it shouldn't be used. As long as the admin's and joey agree on what is considered a glitch, that should be all matters.

Dia-Bllo...as I recall, you were throwing a hissy fit, and making a big deal about the map below too. Stating that the people up above were breaking the rules...and glitching. I thought it rather odd that you were the only one who thought that :-k So, can you point out what you use to base that assumption on by using your theory.
