Hey at least you got a birthday. True story...short version.

While underway during a westpac my skipper comes to me the day before my birthday and says "AT3 since you censored up the last wire check on 301 I'm going to have to take away your birthday".

Me "Ummm excuse me sir???"

Skipper "You heard me, since you forgot to do the sidewinder test and made day check do it for you, I'm taking away your birthday".

Me "Sir 301's wirecheck was done by daycheck since it was still flying at 0500"

Skipper "Don't argue with me or I'll send you to mast. Tomorrow is going to be May 25th as far as your concerned."

Me "Yes sir"

He walks out and I'm left wondering to myself wtf is going on and how the hell can he take away my birthday.

So after a long and very hectic night shift it's time to goto bed. However the skipper is in the lounge waiting for me.

He says "AT3 what is todays date?".

Me "Umm May 24th sir"

Skipper "What is so special about today?"

Me "Nothing sir"

Skipper "Do you remember me telling you that I was going to take away your birthday?"

Me "Yes sir"

Skipper "Today is not May 24th, it's May 25th."

Me "Sir what was yesterdays date?"

Skipper "May 23rd"

Me "So how is today May 25th?"

Skipper "We crossed the international date line. Therefore your birthday didn't exist this year."

Me "Sir does this mean I'm not 21?"

Skipper smiles and just walks away.

To this day I'm not sure how old I am :|

It's the international date line and it's the reason that part of the planet is a day ahead of us normal folks in the US :butthead:

I understand that part but at one point in time in the middle of the ocean you had to hit the day of your birthday. Boats dont travel that fast.

Actually the skipper of the boat waited on one side of the dateline and timed it out so we crossed at 2359 (11:59 pm) so we never did actually had May 24th.
