Quester is donating his spare CPU hours

Post by Quester115 » Fri Sep 28, 2007 5:54 pm

Well I'm now an official member of the GIMPS (Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search)
Its a rather large group of people trying to find rather large prime numbers in the form of (2^p - 1)
the last one found was 2^32,582,657-1

so i have a decent machine and a heck of a lot of downtime on it so i thought i would help crunch the numbers
for the 'how it works/wth is this/can i join?' check their website http://www.mersenne.org/prime.htm

they use a program called 'Prime 95' and is written in x86 assembly and is run at the lowest cpu priority so it won't interfere with even the hottest of iCTF matches

so come on join the fun, if your interested they allows teams too so more than one user can check the same exponent

btw theres a 100,000 USD prize for a new number found
so if your seriously interested and want to join up in a team i'll split it with you 40/60 and the 60 is your share ;)

bs u only get 50k

If you were to find a 10,000,000 digit prime today the above rules imply that $3,333 would go to Michael Cameron, discoverer of the 39th known Mersenne prime, $3,333 would go to Michael Shafer, discoverer of the 40th known Mersenne prime, $3,333 would go to Josh Findley, discoverer of the 41st known Mersenne prime, $3,333 would go to Dr. Martin Nowak, discoverer of the 42nd known Mersenne prime, $6,667 would go to Curtis Cooper and Steven Boone the discoverers of the 43rd and 44th known Mersenne prime, $5,000 would go to GIMPS, $25,000 would go to charity, and $50,000 would go to you.

That's still $30000 for you and $20000 for Quester 8)

My spare cpu cycles are used on seti and folding@home. I used to run another program but have long since lost it and don't remember which one it was.

well i understood that personally i would only recieve a whole helluva lot less than the 100 000 USD lump sum, (and read the part that you got your numbers from)but i make 12 000 a year so...an extra 20 000 [ohhh yeah]
1 p value already checked
2^(39 211 633) has a prime of 80 918 089 854 641 792 216 887 193 :( ahh well on to the next!
