LOL........

ECC mem (Registered Memory) is only good for server use. Not gaming use. It doesn't have fast timings and if you look at all the high-end gaming PCs that are available from the top high-end manufacturers (Voodoo, Alienware, etc) they don't even consider using ECC mem in a gaming system.

Your absolutely right on a large ATX case or BTX case cause the air exchange is much better. CoolerMaster, Lian Li and Armor make some great ones with air exchange in mind. Fans blowing directly on the vid cards is the best way to go.

Server mobos are really not a good choice at the moment as there are mobos that can handle up to 8 gb of mem (which is more than enough for any high-end system) designed for gaming in mind. Also server mobos are a great deal more expensive than even the best gaming mobo. My EVGA 680i is one of those that can accept 8 gb of mem.

And as far as putting in the dual cpu's...in about 12-18 months intel is going to be pushing its nehelem architecture which will support 8 cores (all 32/64), and the next line is (finally) going to have an onchip mem controller(alright thats more of a hopeful, but its on the table for post nehelem). put that next to the SSE4 instruction set (which to my surprise does increase single core speeds for supported apps)
and so intel takes back the gamers pc(along with whole bunch of servers, and if you need any more to make your decision cray is going to be putting intel server chips into its machines. and if its good enough for cray...) . they just needed a bit of time

that and nehalem will probably be the successor to the 1600MHz FSB chips that have been coming out recently, which i can only imagine will be 466 (533?) quad-pumped. so, now the FSB is running at around what AMD's hypertransport runs at, and intel got the hint and moved the memory controller on-die. interesting times ahead.
