... most likely packet loss between your computer and master ut server list. Usually no big deal as a lot of overseas folks run into this from time to time. No matter Zombie, i go so well the explanations, which logs unreal i had never understood anything until now, at least now i know something more.
Now that we think well before the updates i could not play more than 30 minutes to 2 hours max, before a freeze.
The day before yesterday, however 4 hours, and then freeze, before Ubuntu updates
Yesterday more than 5 hours, after having cleaned up the cache, and everything was ok.
I assume then (Amy docet
) that the two things put together: Ubuntu updates , and cleaning the cache have resolved the situation, at least for UT, sure i will have the final few days.

Have you tried to dual boot with windows on a different partition or drive? Or are you using a windows emulator with unbuntu?
I suggest looking at "wine" if you don't have en emulator already. From what I've read it's the most reliable.
I don't have nix installed on the new computer because ... well I got lazy and just haven't done it :D

well for my problem, except the sh!tical pu-based runaway-loop-errors and sometimes a general protection fault in ut i know my freezes have nothing to do with ut. theses freezes come when they want... sometimes my fkn xp is just ready with booting, dang, scratchingsound hd, freeze, switch off/on, reboot, playing 2-3 hours till it happens again.-. sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes 10hours without anything....
so i bet in your case most of ut-log-file-errors are not based on your hardware!
aw... just read, zombie answered the same....
anyways, did i miss that, your freezes, come they "allways"?
i mean, doesnt matter if you watch a movie on your pc or
downloading or typing or browsing or playing whatever game, or is it only while playing ut?

I do not use windows, use only ubuntu at least 18 months. Also try with wine, may be an idea (ah, wine is not an emulator, we say that a translator calls for the libraries), but as you said, it would seem a hardware problem.
@ Amy
Then, before using this disk, (the old) had the Seagate just 6 months, and another disk PATA that the only use for backup, which put only what i need on a removable tray.
I say this, because the second situation (in addition to UT), where i had a sudden freeze or reboot, was when i tried to copy files from one disk to another, using rsync or other programs,...and this always be about 2 months.
I've tried swapping cables, both, flat and power, even i removed a drawer, and i fully disabled a channel EIDE from BIOS.
Now i have not tried yet (after the updates of the day) to copy something from a disk to another, (now missing 12 days with Ubuntu 8.10 and when released, will use the new Seagate)
If i happens when viewing films for example? I do not know, i'm not very passionate of movies, but i get around a DVD of the film Gandhi :D , then try.
At the end, tonight i was thinking that maybe it's a problem of overheating of the GPU, or processor, but it would be strange because almost all summer i had no problem.

I was going to say that it might be a HD issue........then something came to mind........the time factor involved. When you have a system that runs great for for a few hours then does the "crap-out" thing, that is sounding like a cooling issue. Now, there could be a few things to look at.......the case and the parts within such as the PSU (yes, power supplies can and do overheat), the memory can overheat as well as the on-board video chips.
Try taking the side cover off the case and having a fan blowing on the mobo. If you find that your playing time is lasting longer, you might need to just mod the case with some 120mm fans blowing on the right areas.

about heating problem, i remember a problem with a bullsh!t low-prize "cream" (dunno the name, thermal grease? ), now "dry" and without 100% effect, which is between cpu and cooler, maybe this is worth a look, but dont break your cpu ;-)

Yes Amy, thermal grease.
When i assembled this PC, i put the boxed processor, and with his thermal greas. The fact is that for 16 months i have never had any problem, it is only in the last two that this seems ... evil possessed pc.
At this point boys and girls, drop the overheating, because yesterday (with the case open) had a freeze after 5 minutes of play.
