ok everyone. I had a great idea for player skins. Due to the recent climb in use of the default black guy for the skin I realised there was a big problem. Everyone has their favorite skin applied but no one can see them because no one knows where to go to get them. Well joey thought of one way of doing it and I thought of another and both have thier ups and downs.
Method 1: Code that snags the players skins and downloads them to server. Then as another quick download when entering a game you get all of the downloaded skins and everyone looks unique . problem solved. However you have ot think about this:
People will use offensive skins.
People will have aweful skins that look retarded.
People might overuse invisible skinss etc. There are a few problems here because you would have to worry about duplicates auto-downloading etc.

I think an easier solution might just be a poll in the forum and every week or day or whatever, new skins are shown and people approve or dissaprove and the best skins get put in the server. Then on the forum site, the approved skins would have their own section where you could see the skins before applying them. This way the admins would be able to control every skin on the server and they would all be quality. It would take alittle time to build up the database of skins but it shouldn't take more thena few weeks of people posting and testing new skins.

I think if we all have our own skin it will make the game that much more fun. It gets too monotinous when everyone looks the same and there is no individuality. I think it would be a great effect as a finishing touch on an already awesome server that has nothing that compares to it already. What are your thoughts guys!?

Well, we already have a forum section called skins. Aforementioned drawbacks aside, I do like method 1, as it guarantees we will get everyone's skins all the time and loaded in the right places. Plus, on top of this, you wouldn't have to re-post in the forum every time you decided to change your skin. Wouldn't it be possible to check for/skip duplicate skin filenames? I would think so, but I'm no UT developer...

This is a much better idea.

Or we could just upload Sloppy's mega skin pack once he's done with it...

True, but once someone decides to change their skin, Sloppy's mega skin pack is then out-of-date

Yeah, that's the problem with the whole idea. It's still going to cover most of the skins used by the forum-users though...

I'm for this, with careful watch for bad / invisible / offensive skins of course. I'm still seeing quite a lot of Jakob skins, despite the fact that I grab everyone's skins AND collect some on my own on the side. I use a few gen mo`kai skins myself, though I switch to the default ones on occasion simply because I like to be able to stand out on other folks' screens. =) I'd use a few more myself from my collection too if this was implemented.

Doesn't bother me either way...Jakob or whatnot. I don't think adding another package would be worth the trouble. Not to mention the lag it will cause while the server searches for, downloads, then uploads the skin packages to your machine.

Not to mention the risk of bad skin packs, or those crappy skin packs with voice packs.

What would be better imo if it can be done is to code a script that will tell you what the players skin is when you mouse over them. That way you can go find it and dl it if you want it.

I will be honest. I don't pay attention to most players skin. I don't have time to really look at skins while the mods our out and I dont look within the 10 seconds to a persons skin.



I agree with Kurt option 1. Skins are like computer peeps and once you make it its outdated soon after.

if everyone would just post there skin on the skin topic that would take care of the problem. ive posted some of the skins i am using but since i am just skin hoping cause i am bored i just posted a couple of them.
