I have yet to be able to come across a conclusion about the better of the two so I need everyone's help, not just an answer from the first person that responds, and please only respond if you know what you are talking about.
Tables for each of the details:
The GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB the third from the bottom
The Radeon HD 2900 XT the bottom one
I'm leaning towards the Radeon because most of the numbers are higher...but I don't know how much better that is, except the Radeon shader is far superior. I do not know what the ROPs thing is and if that's what counts the most or not. I would like a card that is good for lets say...UT3. So that would mean I need particle rendering over landscape rendering (if that makes any sense).
Any help would be appreciated, and thank you in advance.

Mystique is right in the general sense the AMD owns ATI. HMMMMM that might be the answer but The Cards can be picky to boards not brands!
Yuri. First the boards on on two different ratings. ATI is giving you a faster speed but lower Memory Speed. The main thing is though. Your spending $100.00 more for a video card. You need to compair apples to apples in money with computer compents.
EVGA 640-P2-N827-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB that vs your AtI card
I will say that ATI does have a better Core Clock but its memory speed is cut in half. Your overall performance is going to be better with Nvidia right now for future games because they are going to require more memory speed in. Just like speeding your windows you get better memory. Your also get a 128 more MB memoryI would say to stay with Nvidia right now just on the basis of that. Some people like Sloppy are die hard Nvidia fans. Some others are ATI. In the end there both good cards but your money its up too you. Also look to SLI the cards even if you have to lower the quality. Yeah a 1700 640 board is good if you can two your awesome, but a 1500 MHZ at 320 MB Mem times 2 gives you 3000 MHZ. Your Memory is core based to the first card. SO you don't game double memory but still. No game is going to max out a 320 board.
