One of the main things to remember about video cards is that they run considerably hotter than CPUs. When you run SLI or Crossfire, well... your just adding to the cooling issue cause their so close together. Keep in mind now that cards are always going to be higher than CPU temps, no matter what.
The main thing to look at is airflow inside the case. Air exchange is critical. If your running a mid-tower ATX case, have at least one fan (preferably 120mm) in the side panel, blowing directly on the cards and have preferably the same for intake and exhaust (don't consider the side-panel fan as intake alone, have another in the front). The best solution is to run a full-tower ATX or BTX case so air inside doesn't have time to become superheated from the vid cards and CPU. Also, keep wiring and cables out of the airflow path which means tidy up the cabling and make sure your tower has adaquate airflow around the outside. I'm running a CoolerMaster Staker case, which is a full-tower (yeah, it's big) and provides good air exchange throughout the case.
Here's a couple of pics of my rig. (NOTE how I did my cabling for airflow)

That is my issue I understand they run hoter but I'm getting errors from them running to HOT!. They were running at 80C. That is HOT. I need to knock it down a bit. I added a fan to the side of the case but I also have a vent hole on the case to allow HEAT to escape for video cards. The wires are clean I can't move much around to get air flow since I did what you did rap the crap in the HD bayes. But my main issue is the SLI. I'm just curious if anyone has. I'm going to looking into so little things. It all helps if done right. I

if you haven't already, you could try poping open riva tuner and checking if your card fans are running at full speed(if you don't mind a bit of noise. by default i found that they almost never reach full speed on their own out of the box.
rivatuner also has one great interface for graphing all your cards nice numbers(clock temps etc)
got one GTS, under oblivions full load it runs about 68(core oc'ed to 648Mhz) or so
so again if you haven't tried it: rivatuner

Im going to try a PCI slot fan if I can get it to fit. I just need to get the heat from both of the cards off eachother. The fans are running at 100%. I have 2 raptor HD so I have planty of noise to overcome fans

Sounds like it could also be a couple of things going on....
Your mobo design might not be the best, placing the cards too close to each other.
The GPU/HSF might need to be remounted.
Here are some aftermarket coolers....

There's also watercooling and getting a larger case.

I've looked at all angles of the thing. The cards have enough room to place a fan set between them and thats all I can do. Everything else in the system runs cool. My Cpu is running on the otherside of the board and then I also have a heatpipe on the board that works great. But I just think its to much heat for the fans to handle since they are so close. My case even has a VGA air screen to let air out from the side with the fan. I already have a Full size case. I can pull my board out with everything attached. Just wondered what anyone used but not to many people have SLI on the 8XXX Series yet. Thanks though for the help arch and Quest. I figured you two would be the posters helping

always glad to be of service to the comunity.
and not to good at yelling or ranting at people(some thread just need to die) so i like posting tech stuffs, its a plus when it actually helps the people here too!

I love the people here :partyman:
and when mounting the extra fanage you probably want to oreintate the fan blowing in towards the intake of those ginormous coolers they smake onto those cards.
thinking err... [grumble text pic]
{back..................................front}
[graphics card]
[attached fan]
{->fan blowing across->}(so your not intaking air coming off sli card)
[grachics card]
[attached fan]
[^intake fan on side^](or another cross flow)
that should give both cards plenty of fresh air
another (although far more radical aproach) would be to go over to your local menards and get some plastic glass stuff (whatever its called) and put a box around your cards that goes from motherboard to case wall.
----------
[card] |
[card] |
----------
then dremal out a window piece the length of the cards with two holes for some 120mm fans that will then intake nice cool air through the side and get directed through and across the cards
I like the first(its easy, i'm lazy, and i see ample usage of duct tape

)the latter is definatly a project, but you'll see those temps plumet
oh oh! be sure to post pics when you done

That would be puching the case size for sure. But I like it. Its own cool box you could say!

Errors you say that why i like ECC memory and Armor makes the best case out there if your not to attached to yours already. With the Armor case you have enough room to add 8 fans+.Any1 else interested on building a great computer should consider Asus K8-N Motherboard supports 2 dual Opterons,24 gig memory, yes 6 slots all can hold up to 4 gig dimms. The Professional Chipset it comes with is killing these many out there.I just think why buy a pc every 3 years when you can build one that last for 10.Full ATX is the only way to go.
