I also believe there is a console command like demorec and then it starts recording and then some other command that stops it (check gamefaqs.com, unreal tournament 2004, codes, somewhere in there). Never used it so... not much I can say except there is a command.

The built in demo recorder isn't very reliable. Nards suggestion to use fraps is a good one

think demorec-videos are smallest and they can be compressed with zip or other packers.
demorec-commands:
keybind/console: demorec
=
starting demorecording, ut is givin a name automatic, like "Demo2007-12-19-59454375.demo4"
console: demorec [insert a name]
=
starts demorec with the name you specified
keybind/console: stopdemo
(=selfexplaining)
console: playdemo [insert the name you used]
(or look in ut2k4/demo-folder before playing them for other recorded demos and their names)
<or instead opening console and not knowing the names or not wanting to look into explorer and search for folders, run ut2k4, in start-screen click
community, there you click demos, then doubleclick the demo you want to play.
or on bottom you have possibilty to create an *.avi while the demo is playin. well, dunno why, but all sounds are not recorded in my tested avis, didnt look for that why it doesnt work. next problem is, in demorecorded movies the weapon you are using isnt shown, there exist a file to fix that, but i never tried.
nards suggested "fraps" is used long time for gamevideorecordings, oldest i know are movies from quake, cs and ut99 so i guess its allways a good try. (but dunno about sounds, never tested it if they are recorded too!)
back to normal ut2k4-ingame-demorecord. normally recorded demos are the smallest and normally they can be played on every other pc, which can "handle" ut2k4. problem maybe can cause if you have highest eyecandysettings and you want to show it on a lowendsystem which only can handle ut2k4 in lowest settings... sometimes it can have versionconflicts or if you want show it on another ut-system and they dont have packages, skins, mods, muts you used when the demo was recorded a errormessage will appear about missed "whatever"....so you need to download/install/copy-paste them first before beeing able to run a demo...
i think you have less problems with external programs, but be sure you dont have the slowest pc...
