Zound Sound Packs: Anyone familiar with creating these?

Is anyone familiar with creating sound pack files for zounds? Or even familiar with creating sound packs with Unreal Editor 3.0?

The problem I'm running into is this......UT sound files to create a sound pack must be in .wav format. So, most audio clips are in .wma or .mp3 format and must be converted to .wav format for sound pack import. I'm wondering which format conversion setting is best to use for converting to .wav?

The typical format of the .wav file is PCM but it's the attributes that I'm concerned about. The attributes are these settings:

8.000 khz, 8bit, Mono and 11.025 khz, 8bit, Stereo etc. etc.

Normally mp3 and wma are stereo, but If I'm not mistaken, sound files for Unreal need to be in Mono. I'm wondering which settings to use in order to retain more of the quality in the end sound clip. It seems that the 8.000 khz, 8bit, Mono setting sounds a little crappy!! Even with a clean sounding original clip, the above setting makes the end clip sound scratchy and static-y.

When I convert the format to something like 11.025 khz, 8bit, Stereo...or any Stereo format....it sounds fine, but after importing to Unreal Editor, the sound clip doesn't play. The only format that plays, is the Mono setting, but it sounds alot worse than the stereo format.

I'd like to find a setting that doesn't make the file too large, but retains a bit more quality. Any suggestions???

I use Foobar 2000 to convert my mp3 for my cellphone with great results.

Well, I was able to figure the Unreal Editor thing out...for the most part  But I did download the Foobar thingy.....when I do another sound pack, I'll try using that instead of windows sound recorder..LOL!

Where I run into a confusing thing is that the recording done with the windows sound recorder ....the volume before import to UED is incredibly loud, but after import and playing withing UED, the volume is dramatically decreased. So, I can't ever get a true sense of how it's going to sound in game  But I do know that changing the khz, bits etc. changes the clips volume and quality as well as size.

Anyhoo, I think I figured it out. I had mentioned a while back about doing a zound sound pack for the INV server...and I finally got around to doing it. There are still some sounds carried over from the previous sound pack...but I'll have joey ok the final product just in case he wants any additions or edits

If anyone would like to dl it and preview the sounds, you can preview them without zounds by opening the .uax file from the Unreal Editor Sound browser...I have included links below in both .rar and .zip ...

I have a censored version of Goldwave I use if I need to edit sound effects. There's a bit of volume difference sometimes, but not too much.

also nero wave editor is great for importing mp3 and has many option settings when saving as pcm .wav files. also allows for some basic editing and touch-ups. used this for sounds in my (now droped) energy weapons pack.
