Yeah, it sucks, I just got downsized last week. After 8 years at the company, w/o warning I came in last Thursday (after a typical 45-minute commute) my boss called me into his office, and soon the HR director showed up, and I knew then what was going on. They set me up with an OK severance package, but it still doesn't make up for the comfort of having a stable income.
So now I need a job. Anything in IT really. I've been pounding COBOL and SQL code for a Fortune 18 company for the last 8 years. I have a general knowledge of the "C" languages and Visual Studio, and am willing to relocate if that's what it takes to get me a decent career. So if anyone can help out, lemme know!
Peace!

I'm sorry Beast!! : cry I've actually got some web development work that I didn't even have to go out and look for. A buddy of mine is setting up a number of sites and asked me to help him out. So, of course I agreed!!

So far...so good!
One way I've found that is a sure fire way to get work. I was a charter member of a service club in Nor. Cal. and was on the board of directors of said club, and I was also on the board of directors of the fair. Going to/hosting events for both organizations allowed me to meet a ton of people. Many of those people have their own businesses so , get to know some of those type o' people. If you wanna stay in your local area....network baby!! And I don't mean computer network..LOL!
Also, what is your background, experience etc? Cause I'm thinking.....you could always start your own business. Network tech support or computer tech support. I know a ton of people that are constantly calling me for pc help...and network setup help etc. The good thing about that is....you basically rely on your skills...you don't have to have a buttload of equipment, tech supplies etc. Try putting an add in your local paper or something. You may find you like being your own boss..LOL!!
