Video Card issues

Post by General-Chainz » Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:07 pm

Ok I got a cracked version of Bioshock from a friend and i went to extract and install well sumthing happened and I cant get my comp to recognize my video card n e more. I am currently using onboard video.
I tried updating the drivers and disconnecting it and reinstalling it.
I worked for a minute wit the case cover off but now back to nothing.
It still gets power and the fan runs but i cant get it to be recognized.

Any Ideas?

sounds like it's time for a full Windows reinstall

h.m.m. not the best at diagnosis and recovery here,
but, I would take the card out, uninstall any drivers associated with it, and then reinstall the card from scratch again. If that didn't work...well maybe arch, sloppy, anna, or one of the other locals could help you out >.< in the mean time, ... minesweeper isn't that graphics intensive (still waiting paint...) :D

Have you the ability to test the card in another machine? Also test your machine with another card.

Easier to make suggestions once we know if A: the card works and B: the mobo works.
If you lost your cd and have the old drive and have not reinstalled UT2004 or reformatted the drive, you can find your old cd key in the registry here ...

General........give us some specs please....

You could try a system restore to an earlier date to see if that works, try another cable or make sure the card is seated properly. Try reseating the card in the slot, making sure it's making good contact as I had a similar problem recently when I had to move my tower and was getting no signal. I pulled the card and reseated it and all is well.

What happens if you uninstall all the drivers, change the current driver to "standard VGA" and reboot. When it comes back up check your device manager and make sure there is just 1 entry under "Display Devices" that shows the "standard vga adapter" (if there is more then 1 delete any extra and reboot again) and then try to reinstall the latest drivers for your card.

yeah jus using onboard at the moment to get a visual.

I did the complete reinstall took the card out and reinstalled still nothing
did the system restore nothing

do not have the ability to test in another machine.

but i know for a fact it is not fried it still works

2 times now if I let my comp sit for a few hours off
then turn it on it will recognize the card but once I shutdown or restart it goes back to stupid mode apparently. I jus had it on figured update drivers and restart but again wit the blackness...

So far I agree wit Beast I believe it has sumthing to do wit Microsoft Visual c++ I may be wrong but knowing the card still works makes me think its a bad coding somewhere.
