It's available, I have it, installed it, and running.

BUT - there's some funky stuff in the menus. Who knows what else. And, I'm not sure that a reinstall of UT3 might not be needed to install the full patch when it comes out.

YMMV. I wouldn't install it if you aren't having problems.

A bad start, yes. A bad sign, that can be taken differently. I actually think it is GREAT that they are getting a patch together less than 4 days after release. It does show that they made mistakes, but it also shows a kind of game support that is hard to find now-a-days.

Take EA and BF2 for example, EVERY patch fixed a small few problems but created more. The patch of "6-6-06" was the worst. Servers were crashing after two-three maps were played, and EA did NOT release any type of fix until months later.

GJ Epic for seeing SOME mistakes you made and trying to accomidate so early in the game.

A patch this soon after release is a GOOD thing.

think about it... they have worked to get a playable product on the shelf. The demo was released a month ago... I would bet that the retail version was already in the truck at that point. The beta - and first - patch is based on experience with the demo, and the initial release last week.

It also wouldn't surprise me if there were two development tracks - one to get it on the shelf, and one to patch it as soon as possible. The patch may have been in the works for months, not the "days" that people seem to think.

Take Joeyz server for example - we have a playable Invasion mod, out of the box. "Patching" it to make it what he wants takes time, yet, in the meanwhile, we have a playable game. Same thing with retail.

The first patch will fix issues they KNEW they would have, plus as many "surprises" that popped up after demo release as they can reasonably address.

Anyone else noticed Midway's been taking games streight from Alpha to Final Build as of late? Look at Blacksite Area 51.According to one of the minds behind deus ex,Harvey Smith, that's what midway did to that game. And probably did it that way to Epics UT3.Which makes me worried.
