Yes, my addiction is back, thanks amy. I love how modifiable this game is, which is one of the reasons I never really moved on to other games, its just a great balance. Changing the cache purge rate is a good idea.

PurgeCacheDays=0 works better I think

does it really matter? i mean, all who set it NOW to a higher number than 3650, you really think we still play this game in 10 years?? well, if so then at least the same trouble with deleted cache starts in 10 years, and i bet there will be more needed than
some 50mb mappacks to redoawnload ;-)

here the maps 70-100:

ok. here the maps 101-140.

server has 281 maps for invasion. so now its like 50% of all mostplayed maps. when i look at the other
really rare played maps i think its not really worth to upload them, or maybe just a collection of the more or less good workin maps i remember which made fun and not really causing problems like contemplate, dispossesed, challenge and arcane_temple, what do you think?

Even though you had all the work doing these things, and I think we can be grateful... I Don't have patience to place over 140 maps in the correct folders and I really need free space in my Hard Drive... it's just been so much frustrating that it's been the whole holidays and I haven't ever been able to join. *Sigh*

Any clues on when the redirect is getting fixed? Maybe change it to another server? Idk :/

I know it also requires work and money sometimes, but I'm just saying if there are any news on this besides that :|

well, you are not the only one who have this problem atm, but most have it
because they never moved cache-files into the correct folders so ut2k4 is
autodeleting cache files after x days, and not because of no diskspace.

so the primary problem is the same, everyone who dont
have any of these maps need to re-download them for hours.

i made these 50% of the mostplayed maps cause the chance to play only
these is nearly 95%, as long everyone who know about that problem
isnt voting rare played maps or idiots vote for them or noone votes
and ut loads a ramdom rare played map...

noone says you must download them all to play. if you only want to
or only can play every now and then, then i suggest you to only download
the monster madness wopfiles (link in my first answer) and look for your
personal favorite 30 maps, for example. then download the mappacks
which contains these maps and only put these handfull maps into your
mapfolder. unzipping 10 maps and copying 3 or 4 into the map-
folder requires 2 minutes free time. but if you prefer to download one map
per hour...
that makes anyways no real sense, cause if your cachefolder is full after
loading only 3 maps from server cause no diskspace on your hd,
then you allways have to wait for downloading things for ages when
permanently needing them new, as long this problem isnt fixed....

i just tested if its possible to change the map-path to an external
usb-hd, but looks like ut doesnt like that :-(
but maybe i need another command to do that or i missed some other
settings...
if someone knows if thats possible or not let us know, if that work maybe
its an alternative for you

I found a redirect server, they are uz2 files, place them someplace u know the path to... say ut2004\ open a command window and change to the drive your game is on, then cd into the system folder -------- command is ucc decompress filename.*.uz2 .. the file will decompress in the ut2004/ folder, place .ut2 in maps, .uax in sounds etc.... not an easy fix for the time being but easier than waiting for the file to download .... redirect is http://uz2.ut-files.com/ open in browser and use search to find the right file, then save to disk, the compressed file is not replaced by the decompressed file so you may want to move them out of the root folder into a temp folder or a compressed folder or delete them once they are placed in the right location..... I have noticed that the server is most likely on the same up/down pipe as the redirect as when someone is pulling from the redirect the server is showing a lot of packet loss...

hope this helps, the server is near unplayable at the moment.... sorry to say

Hi Amy

the path can be changed, though you may be right about ut not liking a hotplug drive (it doesn't know any better) - but in the ut2004.ini under {Core.System} you can change the paths= statement to absolute paths i.e. say

paths=../system/*.u -- this will be relative path
paths=e:/ut2004/maps/*.ut2 -- absolute path to maps (no relativety)
paths=f:/ut2004/textures/*.utx -- etc....

I haven't tried it myself, but using a path parser should work as well... i.e. f:/ut2004/maps/*.ut2 ; ../maps/*.ut2 (but as I said, this isn't proven, so it may not work)

hope this helps.....
