T what does your ut2004.log file look like? It's in the systems folder.
If it has tons of "failed to load" messages you really should just do a clean install.
WHY DO I DESERVE THIS

before you do a clean install, look what the reasons are...
if a map cant load with warning: failed to load map xyz,
then there are 2 possibiltys, the first is "only" a warning, its nothing which lags you or causes you other errors, its just a simple good programmed ut which doesnt crash "everytime" when a file like the required xyz.ucl-file in ut2004\system-folder is missed. this file is the map-description ingame when you want to play instant-action-game or lan-game and try choose a map.
you will not see THIS xyl-map in your own instant-action-maplist when you look at it! but you will see it in your ut2004\map-folder!
the second possibilty is, when with that map-load-error come some other errors like: can´t load file or package "missed-name"...
in that case you can delete the map, because it needs a staticmesh, which wasnt fully downloaded, or a texture, or a w/e which is missed to run this map.
if you dont want to delete the map, BECAUSE you know you played it sometimes, maybe you have the maps name in the map-folder, but a missed file from cache folder wasnt available again cause of automatic-cache-cleaning every 30 days (default), then you can try to find a server
which RUNS this map and try to downlaod the rest of the map, if it still doesnt work or if there is a missmatch, delete the map and downlaod again.
if in ut2004.log-file only error is can´t load map, no further errors
then look at the maps name, look into your map-folder, and you will recognice the map IS THERE!
now look into your system folder and look if you have
"the-maps-name".ucl - (text-) file, in 95% cases this file is missed, whatever the reasons are for.
if you dont want this errormessage in your log, you can do 2 things:
1. delete the map and this "error" is gone.
2. create a "missed-maps-name".ucl - (text-) file
look in system folder for the *.ucl-files, open some and look whats in, it will be shown like following example:
Map=(MapName="DM-HallofThorns",Acronym=DM,PlayerCountMin=4,PlayerCountMax=8,FriendlyName=DM-HallofThorns.LevelSummary.Title,Author="Who?",FallbackName="Hall of Thorns")
so, all you have to do is change the "DM-HallofThorns" in "DM-Missed-Maps-Name" and save it to "Missed-Maps-Name".ucl in system-folder.
(you can/must rename the fallbackname too....which is in last line of that text)
now 2 ways what will happen now:
1. the map works, you dont will see the error again in your log, and you will see it in your maplist (mostly without a pic or with the pic of the used *ucl-file you opened or no or wrong map-description-text, depends on what *.ucl-file you picked, there exist bigger ones with much more, but this example is still small and worked for me in most cases.
2. the map didnt work and your ut maybe crash when you try to click the map in your ut2004\map-folder to run it.
read what message you got now, maybe you now have a missed-file-or-package-error, or a version-missmatch.
delete the map then....
i "fixed" about 6 maps/errors in that way and it worked....
others deleted cause i know i will never play it or i know from it it could be it was from a try, to join a server and loaded long and after a while you got disconected because of map-change or server-full and so you have the map, but not all the required files to run the map. this causes your errors but will not really lag you, you only may notice a bit longer ut-loadingtime bacause of all errors, which are written down first now in the ut2004.log-file....
the other errors which look constantly like my example:
Warning: Failed to load 'ChaosTex_006': Can't find file for package 'ChaosTex_006'
Warning: Failed to load 'Texture ChaosTex_006.XHairs.cgl': Can't find file for package 'ChaosTex_006'
Log: Failed to load 'Texture ChaosTex_006.XHairs.cgl': Can't find file for package 'ChaosTex_006'
etcetcetc...
this happens most time when you try to run a new mod, in my case chaos-ut, and you didnt read the readme-file which says: unzip all in ut2004\chaosut-folder... but you didnt read it and you put the ut2004\chaosut\maps - maps into in ut2004\maps, the chaosut\system\ - files
into ut2004\system etc, then you will notice this errors.
in that case i dunno for real if it can cause trouble, didnt looked deeper into that yet cause i love to play chaos and dont like to reinstall my ut only cause of this....if you only want to play invasion, you dont need all required missed chaos-ut-files/packages (like in my example) to run ut...
think about that......or find out which packages/files are requested, where they are and which files request it, then maybe move this files in a separate ut-folder and look what happens.... (didnt try that yet, wanna go play)
and btw, many cry about lag or whatever because all looks slow etc...
WHY THE HELL YOU CENSORED CENSORED IDIOTS INSTALL YOUR UT
INTO "C:\UT2004\..." ??????
this is the most stupidest thing you can ever do....but im not here to learn you tweakin your ut and windows!
if you have windows AND ut on the SAME HD on different partitions, its a "bit" better, but at least it will slow down sometimes because your windows IS still running in background and WANT do sometimes somethings, w/e it is and could slow you rapidly down if you have a slow machine and windows AND ut want do some HD-operations at the same time! esp because this "can" cause you massive new-map-join-loading time after a mapchange!
best thing is you have windows and ut on different HD´S! and much better is a real good SCSI-system with 10.000-rotations/min - HDs..... endless
suggestions---- :-)))

OK so I first switched to ressurect like 2 weeks ago while ghost was having problems, but in the last few days I have lost 75% of my weapons with ressurect when I DIED with it. Now I dont die that often, probobly every other game, so this means 3 out of 8 games I have lost a weapon from just dieing regularly. With ghost, the only real problem was ghosting and dieing before my gun loaded, and I think that retention prevents losing a weapon from that. So, I uninstalled and the first game today I res'd, died a min later and had no weps couldnt pick anything up. I am switching back to ghost and I would strongly reccomend that everyone else does too, especially low levelers who die more often because ressurect is just unreliable!

there must be a problem with resurect, and i dunno how and why, it looks like beeing a virus which comes and goes. i allways have probs with res because of the critical error, then i can play 1 week without any trouble and then there is it again with 2 c.e. in a map or 3-4 in a row evry following map. so i do believe him he has troubles with it. maybe t-mon should write down for himself (not here) what pus he used, maybe tehre is the trouble? i just wonder why he "only" lost his wep, but i have a c.e. ...
