I say do both and let your guests decide when they visit :)

I like em both but the tech is easier on the eyes.

yeah...easier on the eyes is the only thing keeping from the gold
trying to read that is like
"whoa thats bright ahh noes teh eyes!!!"
as potential guests run away while their eyes melt out of their sockets
but it does look pretty...could always photoshop some blue in there to tone it down a bit

it is true that with anything in business, advertising, etc, you must consider the aesthetics of what a viewer sees, and how it may affect them. the gold is way too bright, but perhaps some kind of fade or hue mix may work. but you also do not wish to make the borders and all so "busy" and attracting, it distacts the eyes from the text information that is the true beef of the site.

the tech one looks a bit too bland as well, almost giving the page a sense that it looks like its decaying flesh, all grey and lifeless. the overall design and tabular format for things is done very well, but indeed, you must rething and rework the color schemes.

Tech one looks more professional and the bright one (Maybe slightly dimmed down a bit) looks more informal. Depends on you at the end of the day, but I'd go for the tech one.

Zombie's right though. If you can, offer both as a poll to your user-base and see what happens d=)

looking back at tech i see what you mean by being kind of drab
and the whole thing about the decaying flesh ...well...its a photoshop template so color choice can be changed a bit
I want it to look professional so tech was my choice for that.
now just have to touch up colors
thanks for you insight guys

DJ thats a great idea for polling on site, but because its not my work i'm limited to what the terms in the licensing are. so...
what i can do:
edit however i like
change content colors etc
so as a developer i can do whatever i like to 1 template per site
what i can't do:
resell templates
and "cannot publish more than one template on your own web-site for your customer's selection/approval/purchase"
so yeah that sorta rules out that idea :\

and as for user base...its only this community right now lol since i'm waiting until i create more content before sending word out to other areas.
again thanks for you input
