yeah...about alienware
they're decent machines
they're expensive
they come with a destructive restore cd that will bring it back to factory settings not just reinstall the os
also they have a piece of software that will bring it back to factory settings w/o a destructive restore...how well this works, well I have haven't tried it
have great customer support
the preinstalled apps are pretty decent and hold off on the crap
they're expensive
and although still a separate company dell bought them last year1
alienware:build it yourself
about
3:1 depending on options
desktop...build it your self
laptop...if its meant for gaming/visual studio alienware is one of the best brands
totally off topic but
can't wait until intel releases their next processor line

They start off at 1000, but if you upgrade to the latest (Dual Core 2 and Dual nVidia 8800) that alone is worth 4gs. I know this cause I actually wanted one.souless wrote:cant u buy an alien ware one for 1000 bucks and there good right (if im wrong shut up im not obsessed over computers so dont try to act smart)
Trust me, all those ads you see telling you that "This godly PC For mortal prices", or whatever, are not worth looking into.
Sure, you might get the processor and that sorted, but for the RAM, HDD, Sound and Graphics...Gotta pay extra for those! :axe:
Building your own is a lot cheaper because your not paying someone else to do the work. That, and the individual prices for the parts will be a lot cheaper due to not buying the rest of the system as well d=)

Alienware is DELL!
Stay away.
Go to newegg and build one from scratch, I teach computer repair and maintenance and every semester we end up building a gaming rig for one of the students.
If you dont have a lot of cash, i would suggest a ASUS V3 Barebones. It will meet your needs and leave you more money for an Nvidia 8800, 4Gb of speedy ram, and a good dual core. I have built a couple of these and they play everything at max settings for around $1000.
