What patch are you running maylay?
If you are running the current one, 3369, i would try and reinstall it.
If htat doesn't work then maybe you should reinstall 2k4 completely as others have stated .
If you are hearing the sound that means it is trying to connect and it is possible of a patch fix.
If you are unsure about clearing out your cache, go to google and look for a program called cache extractor for ut2004 and install it, then run it and it will take all your cache files and convert them into the right file associations and then you can select extract and it will put them into the proper folders as needed.
But if i were you i would NOT extract a .U file (they go into your system folder ) because it is a good chance that you might have a file mismatch in the near future.

the patch i run on is the one that u start out with when u first play and i never had a problem b4.i did download the 3369 patch and still couldnt get on. i'll try reinstalling it again...if that doesnt work i'll try the cache thing

Well that's your problem you cannot play a server that has 3369 installed unless you do the same.
Install the patch and you should be good to go......

i did download the 3369 patch and i still coulnt play

Ok here is what i do when ever i patch ANY game.
I start with a fresh install of the game and i install ALL "official patches" in the order that they were released.
I believe there were like 12 patches but only 8 or 9 of them are official patches.
If i were you i would try to install a fresh copy of the game and install all patches in numeric order as they were released.

Here is a good link that provides all the listed patches, but like i said make sure that you install only "Official Patches"

There are 2 patches missing from the link that i provided for you so just add 3355 and 3369 to the list.

Well, there is no real point to installing every patch. The final version 3369 and each version before includes the changes made to every patch up to the one you install.

I understand what you mean that all changes are supposed to made to current patch but i have seen some differences.
I had a problem with the 3369 patch when it was just installed . I had some serious video issues and it was not due to a driver update for my vid card.
When all patches were installed as stated above all was good.
