Well a "Default map randomizer" will probably not happen. The default map is input into the server .ini, hence why invasion and this map will ALWAYS load after a server restart, scheduled or not.

The only way I know to change a setting in the ini and hold the setting, while a map is in progress, is to either admin login via client console, or web admin into it and make changes.

The idea of a default map randomizer is probably 99% improbable.

(If there is a server admin or coder that sees something misinformative in what I said above, please feel fee to correct me. I would rather people get info that is correct than not. )

It would be easier just to vote off the map, if enough people were on that didn't like it. There are two reasons why this should be done:

1.) We don't have to wait 10-15 mins, or later, to die and start a new map.
2.) On server crashes, you do not get awards such as "Double Kill," "Mega Kill," etc, which is a huge loss of exp. Especially to higher levels who take 30,000 exp or higher to level.

Example: Last time I played curse, we won the map and even with winning the map only achieved 4,000 exp. On average taking 6-7 times playing this map at 45 mins a pop = apprximately 5 hours of play for one level :finga:

viper, the reason why very few will ever want dust back as the default map is because of how much it was played over a billion times before it was changed to curse4. i think curse was chosen because it is not a very good invasion map and the chances are higher it will be voted off for something else. i honestly get angry even when dust is voted for because of how much it was played in the recent past..

anyhow, chachi is right, the lack of spree experience on the default map always makes it a bad choice for higher levels, this is another key component to why default maps will be displeasing for higher to play on.

i think carball should be default map, even if this is primarily a server most want to play invasion on. it is not a game type to last very long, and carball haters can readily attempt a vote-out more often than they will vote out a highly overplayed default map.

I agree too, for two reasons:

(A) Yes, it will promote a quicker re-vote
(B) In the event that there is NOT a re-vote, then we only have to wait about 15 minutes (or even less) for another regular vote, instead of 45 minutes for an INV map to be played through.
I will consistently sacrifice political correctness for an attempt at humor. If ya can't deal, then ya need ta stop being ign'ant.

indeed, there are absolutely no negative aspects to having a carball map be the default map here, except losing 15 mins of experience gain invasion can give, which isn't much at all for the first 4-5 waves, especially with no spree bonuses.

seriously, the carball maps are just short, sweet, and fulfill the needs of the carball players here who get vote dominated all the time by all others, not to mention the tragedy when a carball map wins and it actually crashes :P

"we are sorry, something went wrong with an invasion map, let us take a short break from invasion and it will be right back" is how it should be viewed. anyhow, after a cb map is done, the next invasion map will have sprees and everything returned, solving one major issue of default maps.

also, as another unseen positive...playing carball more for others who don't may bring up a few more fans of the game when they start to get the hang of it. i myself used to despise carball because i didn't know how to do anything or what the powerups could be used for and the like. we might get a few more to enjoy the game type this way as well. it was refreshing to hear earlier today a couple low levels playing caball for the first time say it was fun!

anyhow, i wonder if anybody ever tells joey theses suggestions, since i think he barely reads the forums.

Carball as default map? As sweet as that idea sounds (since I am one of the few who does enjoy CB), what are the odds that a lot of the other, more Invasion Die-Hard players would agree to it?

I wasn't even aware of the experience issue with crashes that revert to the default map, so a CB as default would be purely ideal for all players involved. I just hope they go for it.

This topic is bearing more fruit than first thought. I think it should be considered more seriously now, at least about the default map. To hell with Dust, I'm just not a fan of Curse4 Invasion. ;p

Seeing how lately there has been a admin around lately
Is it possible to have a set day like lets say monday
when 1 of these admins gets on to change the default map once a week on the day every week?
I know peeps forget and have things to do but even a default map change every other week would be so nice.

I agree with you Dreaghon but I don't I have seen people go off when they change the Map to one they want after a crash. I think it should be told to the admin and then they should ask with the big WHITE lettering Do you want a new map?
Later all!

Why didn't I think of that... draegohn hit it on the head. It's a win/win situation.

The default map never gets voted off, so car ballers may get a chance to play a game and encourage its greatness.... AND the hate of Car Ball could get us back on a map the group wants to play and get spree's back.

Kudos to the idea!
