about taking full advantage of installed memory

Post by Quester115 » Fri Dec 14, 2007 12:18 am

Alrighty then! just obtained a copy of crysis, first impression wow, that looks awesome. then my computer started yelling at me.
I kept getting memory error after a few minutes of game play (happened with UT3 but to a lesser extent)
felt sorta like walking straight into the same mine about 5 times in a row when there are big f'ing red signs say "yo dumbass minefield here!" (yeah did that in game >.<)

pop'ed open task manager while playing and saw commit size for crysis.exe was... ... ... [no think higher] ... ... ...1.8GB
tone down texture quality...hecks no!

so, i thought no problem [takes the few mile drive to the nearest tiger direct store, comes back with second set of 2x 1024mb ddr2 800 @ 4-4-4-12]

okays got my 4 gigs sittin pretty next to the cpu that i can't seem to save up enough to upgrade...probably because of techy shopping habits above...but anywho
load up win vista home premium (32bit) and try playing, hey it worked... ... ... hehe [koreans wondering how one mother f'ing pistol is taking out their army]... ... ...{memory says you stop...now}
[scratches head] "huh?"
opens taskman ... "huh? phys mem available...3.1gb?"
asks my god google "what does this mean!?"[knowing that 32bit should support addressing upto 4GB]
...
...ahh
...uhhuh
...if you say so
...bing!
so...there are other things that get addressed before phys mem
...so graphics, sound, user input, other motherboard mojo, use up this too eh?
[opens system information] hwoo...thats alot of {copypasta from last line}...

well then...lol's you didn't need to know that but hey, anyone with a 64bit version of vista?
whats you be thinking?
is it worth it? more important...any gripes about it?

Agreed, on all counts, though I may try to go back thru it on "Easy" just for the storyline.

Another thing that cheeses me off about this game is that it's so damn hard to find ammo in the tall grass... Any1 got an INF cheat for this? LOL!

Frankly I didn't think you ever got any really cool weapons in Crysis. The TAC cannon was nice, but it was only useable against one enemy. Aside from that though, wonderful story!

its a great concept game, and the graphics are good...but the weapons and progression in game need some serious work.

quester feel free to hit me up if you run into any weird shit about vista. u probably know more about comps than i do, but i have had to work out several small quirks and might be able to save you some time and a couple of cuss words..hehe

well, got it installed and everything seems ...er ... odd.
thisngs just don't seem to be running as fast as they should as well as some other peculiarities.

task manager uses between 20-50% of the cpu (x86 machine using 0-3% with same settings) this is both the 64 and 32 bit versions of the executable

prime95 running iterations of M30509261 (just a random uberlarge number) is running at 6.4 sec per iteration?? (x86 running .035 sec per iteration)

as well as slower running apps across the board (both 64 bit and 32 bit) (does the services windows really need 20% of my 3.45Ghz core2Dou?)

installed in a dual boot config (thankfully) so i'm writing on my x86 OS

may be that i missed a few driver installs as i went through it pretty fast, but would that really cause stuff like tihs?
Was wondering if you ran into anything like this on you install

system specs:
CPU: Core2Dou E6600 running at 3.4Ghz
MoBo: nForce 650i running at 1533FSB
RAM: 4096MB DDR2 running 1:1 766Mhz 4-4-4-12
GPU: nVidia 8800GTS
HDDs: 320GB 7200RPM x 2 (one os on each)

First, let me ask you this.........

1. Did you do consecutive benchmarks as you were oc'ing to check performance increases?

2. Did you do a fresh format with the increase in memory?

As to the 1st question.......some games are REAL sensitive to overclocking. I'd set my BIOS back to default and do some evaluating from stock setting up to highest oc to see if there's performance changes.

As to the 2nd question.......you might have something running in the background that Task Manager isn't showing (that does happen) and you might want to start out with a fresh configuation and then install the game to see if there are performance issues.

Just some ideas that come to mind.........

Just read this.....
Crysis fans will have to wait a little longer for the patch #1 to be released. Yesterday an official statement in the Crysis forums, revealed that Crytek’s and EA’s QA departments are making good progress on the patch, but depending on the feedback it will be released sometime in January 2008. The reason given for the delay is "due to heavy technical issues that appeared right before the patch was declared final". Some of the major changes that will be fixed with Patch #1 are: memory leaks and potential crashes, improved SLI / Crossfire support and performance and improved overall rendering performance (DX9 and DX10). Crytek also said that it is working on Patch #2 for Crysis simultaneously.
