cleaning up ServerCache

Post by [fR4g] » Sat Dec 29, 2007 9:40 pm

My UT was working slow and i discovered that my user.ini has grown to 500k with ServerCache strings which were repeated lots of times

Then I wrote this batch to autoclean it at startup, maybe useful for lazy peeps 8)

just edit it and change path to System dir.

Works great, provided I had to edit the location of the game folder :3 Thanks!

hmm... i have same prob., thought its maybe because i have not last patch installed anymore (downgraded for a never published bugreportreason...) or maybe something went wrong cause of a nearly 3 1/2 year old installation...

but well, i never noticed my ut is slow cause of that, are you sure!?!
anyways good work (if it works, install it later :-)) ) it nerved allways deleting it manually...

Amy my UT was lagging a bit in multiplayer lobby when i refresh my servers, after cleanup all lags have gone away

every time you pressing "refresh" button in favourites screen, all servers strings are writing in user.ini again and again, and old string never delete
and everytime ut reads all that crap on every refresh, so after some months it becomes laggy

I may be wrong but doesn't opening your console and typing in flush do the same thing ie..... clean your cache ?

While you are in a game and are experiencing some sort of lag..... open your console and type in flush then hit enter.
Worked for me many of times and has worked for others as well, like the old schoolers.
Even though i used a cache extractor and reduced the size of my cache folder in the ini , I still had a bunch of stuff stored in my cache.
Not sure if you know this 1 as well but if something is stored in your cache folder and has not been used for 30 days it automatically gets punted.

Unless you change that setting, I have done that so that I could keep certain things in my cache and get back to it later and so I don't have to download anything again. Also, the only thing in my cache folder is stuff downloaded off servers so mostly I use it to get maps and stop from having to load everything again.
Sometimes a crazy move is the best move.

Why dont you just get a program called cache extractor.
It allows you to manually put in any files that you chose to in there proper places ie...maps...textures...static meshes...etc.
And it will also allow you to delete any unwanted files that are in your cache.
But here is a little tip ..All of the .u files which are voice packs and such, you might not want to install too many it will chock the shit outa your systems folder and it will cause some mismatch files that are a pain in the ass to try and connect to a server , find out youi have a missmatch , disconnect, remove file and reconnect again.

I'm using UT2004Mi for this, it can install/uninstall maps/mutators from/to zip/rar, also it can decompress .uz2 archives
For example if you want to extract map from cache, you can easy do it with all map related textures, meshes, etc, and save to zip all this content.
