Lag issues

Post by Intimidator » Wed Nov 08, 2006 7:54 pm

If you have bad pings on cetain servers and get some serious lag , this little ditty might be right up your alley....
I was watching G4 , Attack of the show, tonight and saw a commercial of something that looks quite promising.
After doing a little investigating on this item i figured i would post it to see what everyone thinks.
It is supposed to rid you of lag and improve your ping performance on your machine...
All input would be much appreciated, other than bitching about the price !

Here you go ........ http://www.killernic.com/KillerNic/

Please tell me that you are joking about the 10 dollar card...

It's a computer part for crissakes...

As for the card. I gotta wait till I get my new comp. I'll definitely be needing this once UT2k7 rolls around...

Something like this won't help you when its the games engine that's going under like it does with our invasion, as for deathmatch etc games, it probably will.

I was reading some reviews of it last night and ,
IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GAMES.......
Each game uses a different interface ,which in turn will vary from game to game . Some tests were very promising while others didn't really do $hit on the performance part of the card.
I might give it a whirl when i get my new pc .
I will post the review link that i read last night .......have to find it again ..lol
It was along read but well worth it..
They tested the cards performance on like 8 different games and it was all over the place ......One thing that was cool was how they reall broke down every inch of the card completely. It was quite interesting for those like me who are not uber noob computer dudes
As for the price, it is a little pricey but the thing just came out so give it a few months and the price should drop tremendously like all other pc hardware does.........

i dunno about that one.. all that noise about offloading processor calls to the Killer NIC, and it's standard pci? there's already pci-e NICs out there.. yeah, they're close in bandwidth (when no other pci slots are being used) but for that much money you'd think it'd be pci-e. unless i'm mistaken, this is just an onboard-NIC that was given it's own pci card and a whole bunch of fancy logic.

so it sets up a separate network stack on it's 400-mhz chip? if interrupts from your OS to transmit/receive packets have anything other than a negligable affect on total system performance, then you have other things to upgrade before you drop that much cash on a flashy network card with an ugly-as-sin heatsink.

though the FNapps and USB port is interesting.. to be able to put more than your networking needs (like a microphone) solely onto the nic's processor could have potential.
